avast! Antivirus software is based on the ALWIL Software Virus, Worm and Trojan-horse scanning technology developed in 1988. The avast! Antivirus portfolio includes a number of products, providing effective protection at all levels - from PDAs to large networks.

avast! 4 antivirus is licensed "per user" with the exception of avast! 4 Server Edition, which is licensed "per Server". For some of the editions there are a minimum number of licenses similar to Microsoft's minimum number of licenses agreement (e.g. you can purchase minimum 5 user license of avast! 4 SBS Edition or 10 user license of avast! 4 Exchange Edition).

Customers may choose the length of the maintenance contract (AVS service) of 1, 2 or 3 years. During this period the customer will receive all updates of the Avast! virus database and upgrades to the avast! program for free, automatically.

Volume discount pricing is available for all Avast! products. The total price depends on the total number of licenses and the length of the maintenance contract.

The free avast! 4 Home Edition is only available for use by home users. The use of the Home Edition in a commercial environment would be in violation of the license. Alwil offer special discounts for non-profit organizations. This discount is 50% off the list price for educational and charity institutions and 30% off the list price for health and government institutions.
